Strudel Time

Belle Meadow Fayre

Well, now it’s been a tad quiet here at Strudel Time Virtual on account of it all being extremely busy out there in Strudel Time Reality.

Pilgrim

First of all – I can confirm that a new Pilgrim special – Belle Meadow Fayre – is going to be broadcast in November on Radio 4. It’s a two-part story and involves our immortal hero confronted by a figure who may, or may not be, John Barleycorn and all manner of outrageous Faerie shenanigans. Ironically, it’s been available to pre order on Audible even as I was wondering if I would ever finish it. Ah, showbusiness.

Endor

Alongside Pilgrim I’ve also been working on a screen adaptation of “The Road to Endor” by C. H . Jones.

Set in World War One it’s the story of how two POW’S managed to convince their Turkish captors that they could unearth a horde of buried treasure using a Ouija board and their powerful clairvoyancy. Amazingly, it’s a true story too, so, watch this space for further deets.

Sky

As if that weren’t enough, I’ve also been fortunate enough to commence development on a TV series at Sky. It’s set in the late nineteen forties/ early fifties and is inspired by the Pilgrim stories. It’s very, very early days but already exciting ideas and characters are beginning to emerge and take interesting shape. Soon as I know more, I’ll let you know.

Academia

Finally, I’ve posted a link to a very interesting essay about Pilgrim which is, in turn, featured on the recommended reading list for a course on writing series drama at Manchester Metropolitan University. Amazing to see it featured alongside such iconic shows as The Wire, Happy Valley and Dr. Who. Pretty stoked to be included amongst such esteemed company to say the very least.

Miscellania

Oh, and here are a few recommendations of some fantastic stuff I’ve been watching and listening to. The excellent Hooley production company debuted on Radio 3 with this glorious documentary, Between the Ears. Understanding modern America can be a head spinningly disconcerting experience here’s a cheery little documentary which might make things clearer – if scarier – Praying for Armageddon

Thanks so much for taking the time to read.

l’ll also be giving a talk about story structure at this year’s Margate Bookie but more about that next time…..

Thanks as ever to Kate Cooper at Leopard Design Studio for keeping it live!
