The Emperor
Long time no strudel I know but baby, it’s been all hands on deck.
First off the bat what a brilliant few days in studio with the legends that are Philp Glenister (Life on Mars) and Pearce Quigley (Small Prophets) playing the oddest of odd couples in my new play for Radio 4 – The Emperor. Ably joined by the excellent and talented Lauren Cornelius and Laura Dos Santos.
Special thanks to director Anne Isger who has been an inspiring collaborator to work with over the last few months. The Emperor is going to be the last of a sextet of plays which I’m sure will be an amazing listen.

LAZAR
Well, after months of keeping my cars next to my chest), its’s finally time to say that I’m currently writing the screenplay for the acclaimed International Best Seller Lazar. It’s early days. Myself and director Tom Tykwer (Cloud Atlas, Run Lola Run and many many more) will be working together on the project. Huge thanks him and his team for making my trip to Berlin so enjoyable and inspiring. The book is an extraordinary account of an aristocratic Hungarian family navigating its way through the momentous changes of the twentieth century. It’s an epic and engrossing read brilliantly and beautifully written by Nelio Biedermann. Highly recommended!

There are a few more interesting and exciting projects knocking about in the ether and I’ll be sharing some news about them just as soon as I can.
As well as Tom Tykwer I also had an amazing and insightful afternoon in the Oxford and Cambridge Club on Pall Mall (no less) with Dr. Nigel Gould Davis. It was a genuinely fascinating conversation. Taking, as its starting point, my series of plays based around the feeding of the five thousand quickly moved on to a wide-ranging conversation about the terrifying implications of the Russia/Ukraine war, the eccentric state of geo-politics and the thorny issue of keeping your jacket on at all times when in the hallowed halls of the O and C.
